Afforestation and reforestation Project in San Lucas de Colan - Piura
The Project will carry afforestation and reforestation activities on 1,020 hectares of the San Lucas de Colan Community, using «algarrobo» (Prosopis pallida). The establishment of the plantation will assure the creation of new incomes with the implementation of apiculture and goat cattle.
Although the area is arid, the project counts with enough water supply from the Chira River. |
Baseline Scenario
Which emissions are the proposed Clean Development Mechanism CDM project displacing? Through afforestation and reforestation activities, the project will sequester CO2, contribute to stop desertification processes and preserve the local biodiversity.
What would the future look like without the proposed CDM project?
Desertification processes would continue without the project, and would increase if the population keeps harvesting fuel wood. Without trees, the soils would be eroded when heavy rainfalls occur, especially in the hills.
What would the estimated total greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction be with the project?
No significant carbon sequestration would occur within the project area if the absence of the A/R activities.
The Colan project is intended to sequester 295,313 tCO2e on the first 20 years.
Current Status
Earliest project start date
Planting will start on the beginning of the rainy season, November 2005.
Estimate of time required before becoming operational
Carbon sequestration will begin on the second year of the project, after the plantation is completed.
What is the project lifetime?
21 years
Current status or phase of the project
• Delimitation of the area is already finished.
• Pre feasibility study ongoing.
Estimated Emission Sequestrated
• Up to and including 2012: 10,897.4 tCO2e
• Up to a period of 20 years: 295,313 tCO2e
