Reforestation of the Dry Forests and Sustainable Development Project in Cura Mori - Piura
The Project will carry afforestation and reforestation activities on 2000 hectares of the San Juan Bautista de Catacaos Community, using “algarrobo” (Prosopis pallida) and “tamarindo” (Tamarindus indica). The reforestation will take place on areas with neither agricultural use nor cattle presence.
The project main objective is to provide new incomes for the population, through sustainable management non-wood products of the dry forests and the diversification of the production.

Baseline Scenario
Which emissions are the proposed Clean Development Mechanism CDM project displacing? Through afforestation and reforestation activities, the project will sequester CO2, contribute to stop desertification processes and preserve the local biodiversity.
What would the future look like without the proposed CDM project?
There won’t be economical activities in the zone, due to desertification, deforestation, scarcity of water, and economical and organizational barriers.
What would the estimated total greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction be with the project?
No significant carbon sequestration would occur within the project area in the absence of the A/R activities The Cura Mori project is intended to sequester 147 172 tCO2e on the first 20 years.
Current Status
Earliest project start date
Planting will start on the beginning of the rainy season, November 2007.
Estimate of time required before becoming operational
Carbon sequestration will begin on the second year of the project, after the first stage of plantation is completed.
What is the project lifetime?
30 years
Current status or phase of the project
• Act of Agreement with the community established.
• Delimitation of the area is already finished.
• Pre feasibility study ongoing.
Estimated Emission Reductions
• Up to and including 2012: 46 439 tCO2e
• Up to a period of 20 years: 147 172 tCO2e
